Bella's Friday Faves

WE’RE BACK WITH A NEW FRIDAY FAVE, IT’S BEEN QUITE SOME TIME SINCE WE’VE SHARED ONE OF THESE! WE’VE HAD SO MANY NEW GOWNS ARRIVE THAT WE’VE FALLEN HEAD OVER HEELS FOR – SO IT’S BEEN HARD TO PIN POINT A FAVORITE! MARTINA LIANA GETS US EVERY TIME WE OPEN UP A SHIPMENT, HER DETAILING ON EACH GOWN STOPS US IN OUR TRACKS!

MartinaLiana_902_03-530x845.jpg
MartinaLiana_902_04-530x845.jpg

So what makes this beauty our new favorite?

Easy, we’ll break it down for you below!

FullSizeRender (12).jpg

Art Deco Beading
The center of the bodice really brings an art deco feel to this gown that differentiates itself from its sister gown in the Essense line. The circular pearling in the center really concretes that feel!

IMG_7342.JPG

Pretty Pearl Buttons
Who doesn’t love pearl buttons? We just adore the pearl buttons Martina does on the majority of her gowns! (INSERT A THOUSAND HEART EYE EMOJI’S)

FullSizeRender (6).jpg

Divine Detailing From Head to Toe
With a whole underlay of clear sequins this gown certainly shines! Towards the end of the train the appliques begin to thicken with lattice work detailing. We are big fans of that checker boarding action!

FullSizeRender (5).jpg

A Personal/Store NEED
We were full with layered tulle skirt ball gowns needing another gown with a straight textured skirt. Much like needing a basic in your own closet and finally finding the perfect one you just feel that satisfaction!

FullSizeRender (11).jpg

So, how did we style this exquisite gown?

IMG_7303.JPG

We wanted to really show off this headpiece and chose the dress around this headpiece (which is not how it should be, fall in love with your dress first***). We selected a nice tear drop earring we have a soft spot for and simple yet striking gold bracelet to create a full look.

IMG_7353.JPG

To allow the bodice of the dress to speak we brought the headpiece towards the back of the head instead of the crown. Versatile pieces like this one are truly great when you are unsure of how you are going to do your hair on the wedding day.

IMG_7330.JPG

Because there is so much detailing going on in this gown we decided to pop in a raw edge veil that gathers so sweetly. This veil is a personal favorite because of the way it cascades down the back with two layers of tulle.

IMG_7335.JPG

We look forward to sharing more faves with you Bella Babe!

Bella's Buy

The new year has brought us new designers in store we are just dying to share with you! The latest Bella's Buy { insert drum roll }  Justin Alexander  brings more contemporary gowns with a touch of romance to our store. The Justin Alexander gowns are trickling in and we couldn't help but have a small style session  with one of our favorites!

When we saw style 8880 during the buy we had to have it for multiple reasons! The main reason being the bold statement it makes, the stripes meet in a center seam in front which draws the eye up elongating the body. Who doesn't want that? The contrast between the skirt and bodice brings a twist to this dress that we love!

The train on this Justin Alexander brings an even bolder statement to the back!  You might think accessorizing this dress would be a challenge because of how busy it is but its really not! The key is keeping it simple to let the dress speak for itself.

Here is what we paired this striped wonder with:

☑ A Jennifer Leigh Couture cathedral length veil to go past the train

Many times a bride is afraid of the veil blocking the view of the dress going down the aisle. A plain tulle veil will not obstruct the view and most importantly not take away from the gown.

Our honorary Bella Babe had pearls on, we kept them on to show how pearls pick up beautifully against the sand colored sections. Below you can see more sparkle and shine against the gown.

☑ Tear drop earrings with an equally fabulous bracelet

Stay tuned to for a ridiculously exciting Bella's Buy coming SOON!

Bella's Best Moments of 2016

We had to do an ode to 2016 because it was truly spectacular, filled with trunk shows and events, new designer pick ups, and insanely creative collaborations! We are so grateful to be apart of so many beautiful moments and marriages in 2016 and can't wait to cherish what 2017 holds in store! Here are a few of our favorite times of this past year:

LOVE OUT LOUD SHOOT

The Love Out Loud shoot captured love between all at Studios at Fischer. The collaboration included:

Photographers - Larry Johnson, Josh Michael and Sarah Naselli combined Ann Michael Weddings

Set Design - Chic Concepts

Hair and Make Up Artists - Vanity Eiland

Jewelry - Penaloza & Sons

2018 STELLA YORK TESTER TRUNK SHOW

The biggest honor of the year was being 1 of 10 chosen out of hundreds of stores to host a tester trunk show. Allowing brides in San Antonio to be apart of a huge decision making process alongside our fabulous representative from Stella York was one if not THE best moment of 2016! We cannot wait to see what made the cut but we have a pretty good feeling about what did!

MOMENTS OF MAGIC AT LAMBERMONT CASTLE

Its not every day you get asked to do a Harry Potter themed shoot so we couldn't pass the opportunity up! We brought the queen of whimsy (Hayley Paige) out to Lambermont Castle to create the up most magic.

We adored working with Ann Michael Weddings & Vanity Eiland once again!

CHICAGO MARKET

Market always brings excitement for the next year especially when you are blown away by new designs and particular gowns! It was all about Kitty Chen during market, not only did we meet the designer but we gained exclusivity to the line in the San Antonio region! As our newest Kitty gowns trickle in we are reminded of the first time we laid eyes on them at market.

CELEBRATING SAN ANTONIO WEDDINGS MAGAZINE COVER

We graced the first cover of San Antonio Weddings Magazine this year with an impeccable shot from Castle Avalon. SAW had a beautiful soiree at the St. Anthony to roll out a year of cover photos.

SHOOTING WITH LARRY JOHNSON & MODEL JULIE ERNES

Everything shot at Studios at Fischer this past year was dreamy and romantic but throw a Maxim model in the mix and its turned up to the max! We brought bombshell bride material out for Julie whom is currently engaged! The best part was exciting her for her actual wedding day, best wishes Julie!

RECEIVING THE BEST OF THE KNOT THANKS TO OUR AMAZING BRIDES & FAMILY MEMBERS

We can't thank all of our Bella Brides enough for going out of your way to leave sweet words about your experience with us! We are beyond grateful!

Bella's Guide to Veils

Just as the hunt for your gown may be a small journey the hunt for a veil to go with can become even more so a process. It's all about personal style and taste, don't let it be hard!

veilchart

Let's start with the basics:

Veils were first recorded in history during ancient Greek times; the bride to be wore a flame red colored veil to scare off spirits. As time went on and arranged marriages became more prevalent the blusher was seen to shield the brides face as the man at the end of the aisle hadn't yet seen her. Later down the road veil lengths grew longer and longer to symbolize social status. The tradition of pulling back a blusher to be unveiled to ones future husband is still around but veil lengths symbolizing certain statuses - not so much!

Many brides chose a length to their comfort and taste. In some cases the floor to cathedral length overwhelms a bride who has a more simplistic style. If a bride is still overwhelmed with a shorter style she may lean towards a dainty bridal headpiece.

image2-3

If a bride is looking to have a blusher it is always nice when the veil comes with it attached. This particular veil is fingertip length with the blusher attachment, if a bride chooses to not wear the blusher over her face it is equally beautiful behind her giving off a layered look.

image4-2

We paired this veil with Kira from the Pronovias 2017 collection to not take away from its divinely detailed back. A simple trim allows this dress to really speak and show off what its about without distracting.

image5-2

Below you can see a veil with bling trim instead of the ribbon trim paired with Bijou by Hayley Paige. Since the gown itself has no embellishments we chose to bring a little sparkle in with a cathedral veil. Typically a Hayley Paige bride isn't afraid of a cathedral length veil and wants nothing more than to make a statement!

image8

Some veils cascade around the shoulders really assisting a bride who may be getting married in a church and happens to be wearing a strapless gown. Some churches allow this and others want a strap or sleeve.

image6-2

Going back to personal style and taste if a bride prefers no embellishments or trim on her veil there is always the simple tulle veil. This is always a go-to for the bride that is unsure of wearing a veil at all.

image10

When searching for your veil, here's what to keep in mind:

image11

Does the veil take away from my gown?

Glance at your full look and take in the whole picture, does the whole picture flow? Do you have a balance of what your looking for?

image13

Does the veil blend into the dress on into the train of the dress?

If your veil is clashing or blending into the gown try something different! The last thing you want to do is take away from your wedding gown.

Bella's Friday Faves

Our fave this week is Candice by Kitty Chen, it may go into the category of fave wedding gown of all time because it makes a statement front & back! Just check it out for yourself!

Brides looking for a long train and open back, look no further! Candice has got elements many ladies look for but have a hard time finding all in one: bling, lace, support with an open back, and of course that statement train! With many gowns that have an open back or extremely low back the front of the gown suffers because of the lack of support inside of the gown, Candice has all the right boning and structuring to keep the bride up right.

Accessorizing Candice:

With so much lace and centralized beading you really don't have to accessorize this too much! A nice head piece with a veil and a simple earring would be our suggestion but you can really jazz it up as much as you like! We chose one of our favorite head pieces from Bel Aire Bridal that is truly versatile. The boho bride can wear this piece more as a halo to get that bohemian feel & a more traditional bride can set the piece more so in her hair than across the forehead.

When it comes to pairing a veil with Candice you really want the veil to reach past the beading beneath the open back (finger tip length) or you would want the veil to reach past the train (cathedral length 148").

With a combination of pearls and rhinestones the beading really allows flexibility with what you might want to wear. The fingertip veil we chose to pair with Candice has both pearls and rhinestones

The cathedral length veil we styled with Candice allows the gown to speak for itself, not taking away from the lace or embellishments. Cathedral veils come in 120" and 148" - the 120" does not go past the train where as the 148" does.

Bella's Friday Fave

Finding out your wedding style is apart of the wedding planning process, it may be spectacular and fun for many but for others it is just that; a process. For women who typically hate wearing dresses, bridal separates can be a safe ground that's comforting and beautiful. The concept of bridal separates for Brides can be challenging, either they are all for it or against it. Some are unsure until they have it on and are blown away.

Many believe that separates will look as it sounds S E P A R A T E.
There are many ways you can make the separates look as if they were two pieces and many ways you can make them look as if the were a single dress. If you want to make it look uniform Martina Liana offers a customization of sewing your two choices together. If you want to make it look separate you can show mid-drift or go with a two-toned look (seen below).  There are so many options to make your wedding look YOUR wedding look that is why the Celia corset & Scout skirt are our favorite right now!

Accessorizing Bridal Separates

Accessorizing separates can help you achieve the look of being more uniform. For instance you can place a sash at the natural waist to bring the colors together and for the double whammy it will bring in the waist! Who doesn't want that? We also added an off-the-shoulder strap to create a soft, romantic touch.

We chose to highlight the cleaner ivory color rather than the stone color on the skirt because the skirt color has majority of the look. We also chose to use a few boho-chic headpieces instead of a veil, most of our brides who go down the separates route typically are less traditional and are opposed to wearing a veil.

The separates can be so playful and freeing for many women who have a hard time finding the right dress, its relief for the Bride who makes the hunt for a dress a strenuous process. Accessorizing separates can be as custom as the pieces themselves, the more you change or add the more you are creating a personal look no one has seen yet(raise bust line, line a sheer panel, add beading ect.). That's liberating knowing you don't have to have a designer draw up and charge you your whole wedding budget to get something pretty custom!

Bella's Guide to Pinterest

A BEST FRIEND AND A WORST ENEMY, WE’VE ALL HAD ONE BUT UNTIL YOU START PLANNING YOUR WEDDING YOU WERE UNAWARE HOW RULING THIS CAN BE ON YOUR PLANS. PARTICULARLY MORE SO WHEN YOU ARE A PINTEREST ENTHUSIAST GATHERING ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR WEDDING FROM THE SITE.

Often a Bride comes in with screen shots of a gown that she is set on and cannot move forward until she has tried on that particular gown. A good portion of wedding gown photos on Pinterestwill not include a designer name or a price leaving a Bride-to-be quite clueless. She may go into a bridal shop and show these photos to a consultant and find the designer and then find out prices, this can either shock her or make her very happy. If the store doesn’t carry the designer or line then she is set out into the world to find it and may run into tough circumstances. Unfortunately gowns that have been discontinued from a designer still circulate around Pinterest and tempt thousands of brides, this is what makes Pinterest the worst enemy.

There are many benefits to the site of course; to gather inspiration, to find out styles that work on your particular body type, and to find useful tricks as far as gown comfort and fitting. Don’t steer away from a particular style if you have your heart set on it, you truly never know until you try it on. Professional models and Photoshop really create the perfection of a photo, look into ‘Real Bride’ shots of a gown you have been interested in. You might still come across photos of models but you will see more real Brides rather than just models (as seen above).

Bella's Bridal Basics

BRIDAL GOWN SHOPPING IS NO EASY TASK CONSIDERING WE AS WOMEN DON’T SHOP FOR WEDDING ATTIRE AS OFTEN AS WE DO EVERYDAY WEAR. SHOPPING FOR WEDDING GOWN’S IS IN A COMPLETE DIFFERENT REALM OF SHOPPING EXPERIENCES. THE DECISION OF A BRIDES WEDDING GOWN IS COMPARABLE TO NAMING A CHILD; YOU CAN ONLY DO IT ONCE! LET’S GET DOWN TO THE BASICS!

BRIDAL SIZING

Possibly the most important aspect of bridal shopping is knowing how bridal sizing works! Designer wedding gowns run much like European sizes, so when a bridal stylist says a size you don’t typically wear don’t be alarmed! Different designers even vary in their sizing, some may run smaller than others. A small range of sizes can fit into fit and flare, mermaid and sheath styles. A larger range of sizes can fit into ball gowns and A-line styles. Most stores will have tools to give you the idea of what a gown will look like in your size. Be knowledgeable on what sizes the stores you have appointments with might carry.

Once you have chosen a gown your stylist will take your measurements and show you on a size chart what size you will be according to the designers size chart. Ultimately the decision is yours to make, in many cases brides are losing weight and trying to look their best for the wedding but the best piece of advice is that a seamstress can always remove fabric but only has so much to let out if you choose a smaller size.

GOWN COLORING

Gown color is a matter of personal taste and even tradition. Many shades have been introduced to the bridal industry as the years have gone on. White became popular after Queen Victoria married Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840 and later took religious meanings after 1920. As the years went on of course, changes and advances in technology raised so today in photos a true white becomes florescent in photos.

When you stray away from shades of white and ivory you allow the lace to pop and really become a statement on the dress. As you can see below with the various shades the lace does stand out more on the darker shades rather than on the ivory gown in the middle.

ALTERATIONS

Every dress will be taken to alterations unless you have a sweeping train and have an absolute perfect fit. Most gowns will need a bustle (post-ceremony pick-ups to allow for free movements without dragging) there are some designers who have a built in bustle inside the gown. Many designers include nifty additions inside their gowns such as boning to create an hour-glass shape, buttons to allow removable straps to be popped on, and even across the body straps to prevent shifting. When you are looking for your dress come as you are without shape wear because this could potentially throw off measurements. If your gown does not have the support you are looking for it can always be added. So many tweaks can occur through alterations, be sure to ask your stylist if something can be done in an area you may be questioning.

Most of all, let the experience of trying on gowns be a fun one! Let your stylist know openly and honestly know all bases – your vision, budget, style, and main concerns!

CIAO BELLA’S!

Bella's Friday Faves

WE’RE BACK WITH A NEW FAVORITE BELLA’S! INTRODUCING THE KALEA GOWN FROM THE BLUSH BY HAYLEY PAIGE COLLECTION. SHE’S THE MERMAID FRATERNAL TWIN TO HALO (ANOTHER FAVE OF OURS)!

With bold lace and an even bolder back this gown could not make a bigger statement! The combination of tulle and lace is the perfect match for the bride not looking for a whole lot of embellishments but for a gown that speaks for itself. That must be why we love this masterpiece. Occasionally we come across a bride who falls in love with a gown like this one but apart of her criteria contained BLING. We always suggest bringing the bling through a nice earring, headpiece, and veil.

Kalea can be ordered in an ivory underlay with ivory lace our gown has the nude underlay to really bring the lace out. This contrast really creates that bold effect, ivory on ivory will look slightly more traditional blending together.

HOW WE ACCESSORIZED:

We chose to bring the bling with a Marionat hair comb and a pair of our favorite Haute Bride earrings and cathedral length veil. With an intricately detailed back we chose not to take away from it with an embellished veil, the veil is simple yet so spectacular because of its length, much like the dress it makes a statement on its own.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE BELLA’S

Bella's Guide to Trunk Shows

MANY BRIDES CALL US BEFORE A TRUNK SHOW FULL OF QUESTIONS ON HOW A TRUNK SHOW WORKS AND WHAT EXACTLY GOES ON DURING ONE. WELL WE’RE HERE TO BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU!

image1 (1)

What does this mean for you, the bride?

It means if you’ve been looking for a certain gown style that a store doesn’t carry this is your time to try it on without having to pay for the gown to be sent out if its available.  Loaner programs are available through some design houses. This program enables a bride to try a dress on by paying for shipping if the store does not carry a certain style from a designer they carry. In many cases brides confuse a trunk show with an actual runway show or even sample sales. A trunk show simply gives the bride the chance to see the entire collection and sometimes the chance to talk to a representative or even a designer!

IMG_3413

So what are the benefits of buying during a trunk show?

For smaller bridal salons an entire collection may be close to impossible to carry so a huge benefit to booking an appointment during a trunk show is your ability to view the whole collection. You might really like the top of one gown but not the bottom, there may be a similar top in the collection that may be exactly what your looking for. Beyond that another tremendous benefit is taking advantage of the discount that is offered during the trunk show. This is the only time many stores are able to discount designer gowns that are ordered!

IMG_2592

How do the sample sizes run?

For the most part, the samples sent will be sizes 10 and 12. Bridal sizing runs like a typical European size, two sizes smaller than what the number reflects. Sometimes a designer may send a gown in a runway size because it is what they have in stock, this is generally a size 4. You can find out what size a certain dress may be coming in by calling the store hosting the trunk show.
