Bella's Friday Faves

WE’RE BACK WITH A NEW FAVORITE BELLA’S! INTRODUCING THE KALEA GOWN FROM THE BLUSH BY HAYLEY PAIGE COLLECTION. SHE’S THE MERMAID FRATERNAL TWIN TO HALO (ANOTHER FAVE OF OURS)!

With bold lace and an even bolder back this gown could not make a bigger statement! The combination of tulle and lace is the perfect match for the bride not looking for a whole lot of embellishments but for a gown that speaks for itself. That must be why we love this masterpiece. Occasionally we come across a bride who falls in love with a gown like this one but apart of her criteria contained BLING. We always suggest bringing the bling through a nice earring, headpiece, and veil.

Kalea can be ordered in an ivory underlay with ivory lace our gown has the nude underlay to really bring the lace out. This contrast really creates that bold effect, ivory on ivory will look slightly more traditional blending together.

HOW WE ACCESSORIZED:

We chose to bring the bling with a Marionat hair comb and a pair of our favorite Haute Bride earrings and cathedral length veil. With an intricately detailed back we chose not to take away from it with an embellished veil, the veil is simple yet so spectacular because of its length, much like the dress it makes a statement on its own.

Bella's Guide to Trunk Shows

MANY BRIDES CALL US BEFORE A TRUNK SHOW FULL OF QUESTIONS ON HOW A TRUNK SHOW WORKS AND WHAT EXACTLY GOES ON DURING ONE. WELL WE’RE HERE TO BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU!

image1 (1)

What does this mean for you, the bride?

It means if you’ve been looking for a certain gown style that a store doesn’t carry this is your time to try it on without having to pay for the gown to be sent out if its available.  Loaner programs are available through some design houses. This program enables a bride to try a dress on by paying for shipping if the store does not carry a certain style from a designer they carry. In many cases brides confuse a trunk show with an actual runway show or even sample sales. A trunk show simply gives the bride the chance to see the entire collection and sometimes the chance to talk to a representative or even a designer!

IMG_3413

So what are the benefits of buying during a trunk show?

For smaller bridal salons an entire collection may be close to impossible to carry so a huge benefit to booking an appointment during a trunk show is your ability to view the whole collection. You might really like the top of one gown but not the bottom, there may be a similar top in the collection that may be exactly what your looking for. Beyond that another tremendous benefit is taking advantage of the discount that is offered during the trunk show. This is the only time many stores are able to discount designer gowns that are ordered!

IMG_2592

How do the sample sizes run?

For the most part, the samples sent will be sizes 10 and 12. Bridal sizing runs like a typical European size, two sizes smaller than what the number reflects. Sometimes a designer may send a gown in a runway size because it is what they have in stock, this is generally a size 4. You can find out what size a certain dress may be coming in by calling the store hosting the trunk show.

WHAT MAKES STELLA YORK STYLE 6229 OUR FAVE?

The details on this gown are out of this world complete with an illusion back and lattice trim with the right amount of sparkle. The clear sequin gives off the sparkle in each applique and on the lattice trim train. Structuring in this Stella York creates shape to many figures while defining the waist and hugging the hips, then creating that mermaid shape towards the bottom.

WHAT KIND OF UNDERGARMENTS DO I WEAR WITH AN ILLUSION BACKED GOWN?

We get this question quite often! This gown is among one of our favorites because of the support it gives with a built in corset providing a cup and boning. No need for a bra! That means there’s one less trip to find undergarments! If you are more top heavy we suggest a breast enhancing cutlet that will provide more of a lift.

We chose to accessorize with one of our favorite veils that has a simple satin trim to match the color of the gown. The veil compliments the gown by not taking away from the lace or illusion back detailing.

To play off the lace coming up the illusion top we matched the hair comb to the flowering. We paired a sweet pearl earring to match the comb. This brings the entire look together without overwhelming the eyes.

To Fit a Queen

LET’S BE HONEST; WE ALL WANT TO FEEL LIKE A QUEEN WHETHER IT BE THE WAY WE ARE TREATED IN A RELATIONSHIP OR THE WAY WE FEEL IN A DRESS. IT’S THE ULTIMATE FEELING, NOTHING CAN TOP!

With the recent marriage of Alejandro Santo Domingo and  Lady Charlotte Wellesley the craze of regal elegance is upon us once again. Taking a look back at a few princess’ one common denominator lays between them all: clean, classy ball gowns. Cathedral length veils for the most part have been spotted in most royal weddings but some opted out.

We pieced together two veils to get Lady Charlotte’s  bejeweled veil look with a Rosa Clara gown. This combo is so striking when the wedding gown is has no embellishments, there is truly no competition between the veil and the dress. The two have a complete distinction allowing the dress to speak for itself.

Princess Madeleine of Sweden took our breath away and brought her husband to tears in 2013. Her Valentino ball gown carried lace through out with just enough sparkle to not take away from her massive tiara. She accessorized a bit more then the rest of the royalty mentioned, but she did it so right not one piece was excessive.

We mimicked her off-the-shoulder lace look with a Two by Rosa Clara bolero that gives off a bit of shimmer with clear sequins over a La Sposa gown.

Princess Marie-Chantel wowed Greece in her Valentino wedding gown. The dress comes to life with 3D appliques on top and gives off a traditional elegance with the lace towards the bottom of the skirt. Marie’s cathedral lace trimmed veil was an aspect of her look we were able to nail down but her gown is so unique that aspect was more challenging. We chose a Rosa Clara with a thinner cummerbund and lively beading on top.

Princess Victoria of Sweden let her crown speak for itself with a subdued, off-the-shoulder Par Engsheden gown and complimented it with a lace veil. The off-the-shoulder look gives off a romantic feeling that meets between straps and strapless allowing the bride to have the support and comfort she may be looking for.

Princess Anne Marie of Denmark was not afraid to go out of the box with her wedding gown. For the year 1964 this really pushed the envelope. Today Hayley Paige is no stranger to pushing the same envelope. Her latest creation (seen left) resembles the lattice work seen in Anne Marie’s fabulous ball gown.

We saved the best for last, the ultimate bridal icon Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco. Her custom made gown was a present from her bosses whom placed Helen Rose in charge of creating the masterpiece. We achieved her renowned wedding ensemble by putting a lace bolero over yet another Rosa Clara gown with a thicker cummerbund.

THE BOLERO IS THE PERFECT TRANSFORMATION PIECE FOR BRIDES LOOKING TO COVER UP FOR THE CEREMONY, WHETHER IT BE FOR THE CHURCH OR FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL STYLE AND COMFORT. IN MANY CASES A BRIDE WANTS TO HAVE TWO LOOKS AND AREN’T AWARE IT CAN BE DONE WITHOUT HAVING TO ACTUALLY BUY TWO DIFFERENT WEDDING GOWNS. IT CAN BE AS EASY AS 1,2,3!

Don’t you feel like you can conquer the world when you have a separate skirt and top on and you get a compliment on your ‘dress’? You can  Make eyes and minds wonder on your wedding day, pair a voluminous skirt with a bolero. The easiest way of doing this is finding bridal separates you love. Martina Liana is known for beautiful separate pieces including corsets, body suits, jackets, and skirts that compliment each other magically. Seen below are a few Martina Liana real brides who have thrown over bolero’s. Check out that fur!

Some designers offer a matching bolero with certain dresses making it easier on the bride-to-be. A particular favorite of ours is La Sposa who enables clean pairings. The Ermelinda bolero seen below gives off a hint of Grace Kelly and has a chameleon effect in the way that it is able to flow with different brands and styles. Definitely a must-try for the traditional bride!

A bejeweled bolero can give the opposite effect of the lace bolero. This option is for the edgier bride that tends to wear a little more fashion-forward clothing on a daily basis. The particular bolero seen below gives a Gatsby feeling but can be worn with a simpler dress or a more embellished gown like the one Bel Aire Bridal has it with.

Assurance of Spring 2017

Many Bella's come to us looking to find a dress that will be timeless. They try on a mix of styles and run into problems when they start to love a modern style or even small feature of the dress. Worries arise on whether or not 5-10 years down the road that the dress in question will be timeless or just a fad that came and went.

Bridal Fashion Week affirmed the presence of a few trends we seem to get questions on. These trends are going to stick around and be seen all over Pinterest for a few more years! Lets break them down!

Bedroom Babe

Visibly seeing a corset top throws many brides off, its a bold move that will be carrying on through out next year. If a bride isn't typically used to seeing herself in sexier clothing wearing a wedding gown that has the underwear element to it can feel as exposed as Vera Wang's take on the trend for Spring 2017 (seen below). To some the thought of wearing a risque dress around family members could give someone a heart attack, having the dress lined in its more sheer panels can help relieve the situation.

Bows Brought to Life

The statement bow is easy to accept for playful brides who dress very youthful but for those on a more serious side it is harder to love. Size is always an issue, in many cases we see the bride wanting a smaller sized bow or no bow at all. Its definitely a matter of personality and taste. One thing is certain that bows, flowers, and bling will not be leaving the scene as a means of giving life to wedding gowns.

A Matter of Color

Different tones of ivory, blush, and champagne are common to see for dress lining colors but Spring 17' brings a twist to color in the wedding industry. 'Something blue' can now be your entire dress not just a patch sewn in the inside of a gown or sticker on the bottom of a pair of heels. Black bridesmaids dresses are thrown to the curb and replaced with black wedding gowns for the not-so-traditional bride.

Bling It On

Bling will not be leaving us anytime soon, year by year the intricacy of the embellishments becomes more apparent and eye-catching. It makes sense figuring the way designers want to out-do a previous design and keep innovating. As women we want the same, we don't want the same look as our friends or even third-cousin removed's wedding gown. Bling and lace allow for differentiation. Lace isn't questioned like all the shine and shimmer is because we tend to think we are over-doing it. NEWS FLASH: It's your wedding day, go all out bling it on its not going out of style!

Patterns & Textures

Striped gowns and horsehair trim will be making another huge splash for the seasons to come. Much like bling different patterns and textures are hesitated against because we are unsure if we are over-doing it. Patterns can confuse us because we are used to seeing them on casual wear more so than a wedding gown. Until you try these bold gowns on you will never know how it will look on you!

Bella's Guide to Saying "YES!"

YOU’VE BEEN PINNING AND PLOTTING YOUR WEDDING DAY LOOK SINCE THE MOMENT YOU SAW HIM GET DOWN ON ONE KNEE, MAYBE EVEN SINCE YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL…SO THE DECISION TO SAY YES TO THE DRESS IS IF NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PURCHASE OF THE ENTIRE WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS. HERE ARE SOME GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW WHEN DRESS SHOPPING:

IT JUST FEELS RIGHT

Maybe the dress is your wedding style or maybe its on the complete opposite end of the realm, whatever it may be it just feels right simply put. If you are not overwhelmed with joy and love then its not the right feeling we’re discussing. You feel like the ultimate bride in your respective venue. Instinctively you’ll want to dance, sway, and even feel down the dress. Getting out of this dress will be a challenge!

YOU CAN ENVISION THE WEDDING

Not only can you see your fiances reaction at the end of the aisle but you can see yourself 30 years down the road looking back at your bridal portraits, loving your dress more so then the day you first tried it on. The reactions of your loved ones who are at the fitting now become the reaction of all the guests. When you’ve fallen in love with each part of your dress it gets much easier envisioning every moment from floating down the aisle to your first dance!

NO OTHER GOWN CAN QUITE COMPARE

If you continue to try on dresses after one has really taken your breath away and you find yourself envisioning the ‘one’ and comparing it to the others chances are this is the dress! No matter if you try on 20 more gowns the one you keep comparing to is the one, so throw the towel in and say, “YES!” If you are in a toss up between dresses try putting one on right after the other. Subtle differences start to pop out after you go back and forth between the two and one dress will start to speak more to you.

Bella Bride Cristelle compared fits between stores and dresses and found her dress with us. “I had been looking for dresses and had tried about 10 dresses on when I tried on my Hayley Paige dress it was in my actual size, that was the deal breaker!”

READY FOR ACCESSORIES

When you’re ready to add a veil or headpiece you’ve placed the dress in your top selections or its taken prevalence over the rest making it the one. When you begin to accessorize before you’ve narrowed down to two to three dresses it can become confusing and you may start to like a dress you were on the fence about because you can now see a whole picture. You don’t want to be on the fence about the dress, you should be over the fence shouting out how much you love the dress!

This is not always the case with some brides; some are on the simpler side and could never imagine wearing a veil or jeweled sash. Bella Bride Nicole didn’t want to play with accessories but knew when she put her dress on immediately it was her dress. “I was getting super bummed going to different cities and not finding anything that caught my eye, when I slipped on my dress I knew it was the one after all the searching and traveling!”

The Bridal Influenced Grammy's

The style seen down the red-carpet this year was as captivating as the performances and speeches that took the stage. There was a share of skin and modesty in a majority of the gowns. The common denominator fell in huge Bridal names and influences - we LOVE!

Leave it to the Queen to present an award in a wedding gown, at that an Inbal Dror gown! The gown was just seen coming down the runway for Inbal's Fall 2016 collection and is now the talk of the entire internet as it rightfully should be. The dramatic cutouts and illusion neckline create a whole other kind of sexy that is tamed by the Victorian-like design and collar.

Chrissy Teigen gives us a simple Yousef Al-Jasmi gown and wow's us with the jeweled cape. Al-Jasmi is a sought-after name in Bridal, especially so in the Middle East. His combo seen here is such a fabulous way to transition from ceremony to reception. Don't be afraid to play with bowlero's and capes with your dress!

Want the Look?

Attach your selected cape to this fitted Mikaella gown! Violà!

Ellie Goulding proved a stunning back can still leave someone speechless when the front in 'plain Jane' so to speak. Stella McCartney is never a wrong choice for Ellie. The blush tone of the dress is perfect for her skin tone and a great idea for bridesmaids dresses.

Florence Welch pulls off this whimsical wonder from Gucci truly showing her unique sense of style. Bridal's biggest trend right now brings this kind of individualistic style to the aisle. If the bride wants the sun and the moon, why not bring it to the gown or The Grammy's in this case.

Carly Steel is the epitome of a fresh, Spring bride with 3-D flowers falling down one section of her A-line dress. Steel's gown has the perfect amount of volume and life to not overwhelm a commentator.

Give us a long train with buttons trailing all the way down the gown and we'll be perfectly content! Ariana Grande was another huge hit in Romona Kevenza this Grammy season as the lady in red. With lingerie pieces becoming outerwear in bridal more so now than ever it really strikes our fancy!

Spring Forward!

As Spring starts to creep in we cannot keep our composure for the trends that will be arriving with the season! Who doesn't love the fresh, bright colors and cuts that Spring allows us to wear?

  Watercolor Wedding

Carrying through from last year, pastels are still going strong with an emphasis on dreamy watercolor prints. What an easy way to incorporate a theme! Although the Dori dress (Seen Above) isn't printed the geometric top & horsehair trim creates the same dramatic effect and gives the ability to revolve a color scheme easily around the bride.

The Neck Effect

Plunging necklines will be a hit this Spring, with warmer weather we tend to bare it all wanting to be comfortable and fitting of our environment. Designers are throwing a twist into the neckline this year by making it both high and low with contrasting fabrics. This neckline is for the edgy bride that embraces both the conservative and modern worlds trying to keep some traditional elements in her style while pushing the envelope.

Undergarments Become Garments

Forget the boudoir shots, corsets strike back in Spring giving off jaw-dropping silhouettes! Our Essense of Australia gown below is subtle yet super sexy with a corset top that plays peek-a-boo in the midsection. Like the look but want a dress with less boning? Baby doll and slip-like wedding dresses are making a wave as it heats up and have less constriction.

Make It Pop

Don't be afraid of a dress that comes to life with large appliques, its in season! Whether its through flowers, bows, or feathers designers are creating hype around the 3-D look. If you live to make a statement this is surely a trend to take advantage of. Spring 16' will be a season for the bold, risque brides looking to stand out being truly unique.

Halt Down the Aisle

Halter gowns reigned the runway for Spring and are sure to be seen down the aisle this year. If you are looking to show more of your arms off rather than the chest this is the perfect route to take. The Hayley Paige gown seen below provides a fabulous structured bodice that ties into a halter making it a perfect choice for Spring!

Get ready to Spring forward!

Ciao Bella's!
